Behzad Mohammadi, addressing a ceremony to mark the Research
Week on Wednesday, said the completion of the projects, 22 million tons per
year would be added to the country’s petrochemical production capacity.
He further lauded the Petrochemical Research and Technology
Company (PRTC) for its research and technology achievements in the petrochemical
industry, saying the company serves as the powerful research arm of the petrochemical
industry of Iran and has been pretty effective in generation of wealth for the
sector and country.
Mohammadi, who is also the deputy petroleum minister for petrochemical
affairs, further added that the in the path to smart development, there are
still a long way ahead of the petrochemical industry in Iran, adding: “The
value of petrochemical products in the world is 3,350 billion per year of which
18 to 20 billion is Iran’s share which, given Iran’s numerous advantages in the
sector, there is still a lot that needs to be done in the sector of the
country.”
He said the current Iranian calendar year which began on
March 21 is the golden year for the industry, given the number of new projects
which came on online during the year.
17 projects were planned to come on stream this year of
which 6 have become operational and 3 others will come online by the end of
next week. 5 others are also planned to come on stream by the end of the year.
He said one of these plants is Hegmataneh Plant which was hamstrung
for years due to certain problems but plans have been devised to bring all of
the projects by April 2021.
